Our Mission
Amego is committed to providing individuals with autism and mental retardation the resources and supports they need to
grow and become independent, productive citizens of their community. By integrating teaching, support systems and diverse opportunities, each individual will gain the experience needed to meet and succeed in the challenges they will encounter in life.

Our History
Founded in 1971 by Katharine Sangree and Henry Stokes of Hingham, Massachusetts as a school for individuals with autism and related disorders.
Focused on providing quality services to individuals whose challenges precluded them from being served by other agencies.
Believed in “lifelong learning” and in providing a consistent, stable environment that allows people to thrive and to maximize their potential.
Committed to not only supporting the individual but the family as well. This commitment to the individual and their family has been indispensable in achieving greater independence within the community,
vocational and educational settings.
Today
Provides services for more than seventy
individuals ranging in age from 8 to 64 including many of the original students.
Provides services in more than seventeen residential homes, one special education school and a center for employment supports.
Uses a variety of teaching and support approaches.
A positive Behavior Management Plan is developed for each person.
All programs are individualized to meet each person’s unique learning needs.
Provides speech and language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, adaptive physical education and vocational education in addition to academic instruction.
