Day School

Our dynamic and caring staff provides educational and behavioral programming individualized to meet each student’s unique needs. Amego’s day school operates 245 days a year. Our teaching is based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, supervised by Licensed and Board Ceritified Behavior Analysists who provide on-going support to staff, families, and caregivers working with each student. At Amego, parents and care givers are a welcomed part of the treatment team. The Amego Children’s Division is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC) and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

Educational Support

Each child has specific individual needs that must be addressed. Staff at the school work collaboratively, and with input from parents and other professionals, to ensure that each student has an individually tailored education plan to address their most significant needs.

The school uses a variety of assessments to help identify and determine the educational needs of each student throughout the IEP process. Due to the wide developmental and age range of students, the school selects assessments on an individual basis. Trained school professionals determine each student’s precise instructional needs ensuring optimal opportunities for progress. The school provides highly structured direct instruction curriculum in the areas of: Language and Communication, Reading Decoding and Comprehension, Logic, Reasoning and Writing, Math Skills, Money Skills, Social Skill Development and many other functional skills areas.

Team meetings with parental participation are held annually, and parents receive updated progress reports throughout the year. Amego encourages open communication with families and caregivers and welcomes parents to come throughout the year to discuss progress. Administrators, teachers and other staff are always available to discuss current goals and encourage generalization of skills across school and home environments.

Clinical Support

Clinical support and services are provided by Board Certified and Licensed Behavior Analysts. Through the application of Applied Behavior Analysis we individually assess and customize a plan of care specific to each student. Individualized Behavior Intervention Plans are developed following a Functional Behavior Assessment to target specific learner needs. All clinical interventions are research supported and reflect best practice and are designed to increase socially appropriate functional behaviors while decreasing problematic behaviors that may exist. The clinical team provides ongoing monitoring of data that allows us to ensure the efficacy of programming for each student.

Therapeutic Services

All therapeutic services are delivered in a collaborative, consultative approach by working closely with all members of the school team. Therapeutic professionals provide staff with training, assists with program development, monitoring of student progress, and assist with data collection to measure progress towards goals. If a student’s IEP includes the need for Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Speech and Language services, the Amego school has licensed professionals on staff to support each student. Across all therapeutic disciplines students are evaluated individually through a multi-factored process. Collaborative goals are developed annually for IEPs, which address individual areas of need relative to any therapeutic objective.

  • Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants provide evaluations, consultation and direct services to students requiring therapy targeting visual-motor and/or fine motor skills and provide specialized supports for a range of activities of daily living, including writing, hygiene, behavioral regulation and feeding programs. Our OT and COTA integrate supports for students throughout their day through consultation with staff and provide direct one-on-one or group therapy services as determined by individual student needs.

  • Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants provide comprehensive evaluations to assess each student’s gross motor abilities, make recommendations, propose appropriate seating accommodations, and develop appropriate goals to promote growth and development of students’ gross motor skills as needed. Our PT and PTA promote safety across environments by providing individualized or group gross motor treatment, while closely collaborating with the Adaptive Physical Education instructors and other therapists to ensure students are building critical skills.

  • Speech and Language Therapy services create programs based on comprehensive evaluations to facilitate communication for all students, using a range of low-to-high tech supports that are individualized based on each student’s needs. In addition to one-on-one and small group therapy services, the SLP ensures that all staff members are trained in delivering programming designed to facilitate speech and language development and provide regular consultation to staff for the implementation of communication supports across a student’s day.
